Audrey's Story

Audrey Jean Neu, 87 years old of rural Effingham, passed away peacefully on Monday evening November 13, 2017 at 6:15 PM at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be conducted Monday Morning November 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church, rural Altamont with Rev. David R. Speers officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be conducted from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Sunday evening November 19, 2017 at the St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church, Altamont, Illinois and again for one hour or from 10:00 am until the funeral service time of 11:00 am on Monday morning at the church. Christian Burial Rites will be conducted at Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
Audrey was born into the Christian family one of six siblings of Arnold and Olive Hammer. She began her long life on April 30, 1930 at Chenoa, Illinois. The family then moved to the Altamont area in the fall of 1930, after the corn was all shucked! She was raised and educated in the values of the Church. Audrey married William Arthur Neu on June 5, 1949 in the St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church, rural Altamont by the Rev. Herbert Rose. William "Bill" Neu preceded Audrey in death on Thursday August 13, 2009.
Audrey spend her life in the local area as a farm wife and with her husband raised a family of five children.
She was member of the St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and taught Sunday school. She was also active in community events.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Care Center or the choice of the donor.
Audrey is survived by her three sons, Richard (wife, Angela) Neu of Beecher City, Illinois, John (wife, Karen) Neu of Effingham, Illinois, and Fred (wife, Phyllis) Neu of Effingham, Illinois; two daughters, Katherine (husband, Joe) Kyle of Veedersburg, Indiana, and Charlene (husband, Scott) Bales of Salem, Illinois; two brothers, Howard (wife, Carolyn) Hammer of Altamont, Illinois, and Norman (wife, Carolyn) Hammer of Altamont, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Irma) Mellendorf of Dieterich, Illinois, and Mrs. Ardon (Verda) Mellendorf of Louisville, Illinois; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Ernest Neu; brother, Arlon "Ace" and his wife Elsie Hammer; brother-in-law, Ardon Mellendorf; and granddaughter, Krystal Dawn Neu.
