Dirk Anthony Baker, 51, of Effingham passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his home.
A celebration of life gathering for Dirk will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a 1 p.m. prayer service on Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. Dirk was born on Oct. 12, 1965, in Effingham, the son of Paul D. and Mildred "Millie" Baker. Dirk performed for many years locally, as well as overseas, in several bands including: Acoust'Cats, The Matt Poss Band, and Larry, Dirk, and Myles. He is remembered for his lightening quick wit and unfiltered honesty. His greatest passion was making music with his son, Myles, a relationship he held above everything else. The struggles Dirk endured in this life are redeemed through his pride and devotion to his only son.
Dirk is survived by his son, Myles Baker; his sisters, Tami (Pete) Campbell and Kathy (Bill) Overbeck; his brother, Brian (Anita) Baker; three nephews and four nieces; and his son's mother, Sherri Mahon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Millie I. Baker and his father, Paul D. Baker.
