Helen E. Johnson, 100, of Brownstown, died at 3:20 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017, at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown, with Pastor Larry Clonch officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to Liberty Christian Church, Brownstown, or the Seventh Day Adventist Church, St. Elmo. Helen Elizabeth Darnell was born on Monday, Feb. 5, 1917, in Sefton Township to John and Sallie (Macon) Darnell. She married Paul Robert 'Pete' Johnson on Nov. 6, 1938, in St. Charles, Missouri, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She had been a Brownstown correspondent for the Vandalia Leader-Union, WPMB and St. Elmo Banner. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, St. Elmo.
She is survived by her son, Paul G. Johnson and his wife Connie of Leander, Texas; daughters, Rebecca Carroll and her husband Charles of Ramsey, and Heidi Wilkosz and her husband Ray of St. Peters, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David M. Johnson; daughter, Sallie Miller; four brothers; and five sisters.
