James L. Thormahlen, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:55 P.M. April 29, 2017 at Cox Medical Center Branson in Branson, Missouri. He was born March 10, 1928 in Myrtle Springs, Texas to parents, James C. and Ethel (Wages) Thormahlen. He married Yvonne Fehrenbacher on March 28, 1954 in Newton, Illinois and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2003.
A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating. Members of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Funeral Rites during the service. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the conclusion of the funeral service.
A Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2017 at West Lawn Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.
James is survived by his son, James A. Thormahlen and wife Peggy of Carrollton, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Thormahlen of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and granddaughter, Mary Kate Thormahlen of San Antonio, Texas.
James served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict and worked for many years for Standard Oil and Amoco Oil. He was a member of the Newton, Illinois Masonic Lodge #216 and Ainad Shrine Temple.
