John M. Turner Jr. 78, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Teutopolis, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

John was born on June 24, 1939, in Cairo, IL, the son of John M. and Cathren (Veal) Turner Sr. He attended Vienna High School, Vienna, IL, and graduated in 1958. After school, John served his country in the United States Army, entering in 1958 and being honorably discharged in 1964. He was united in marriage to Sharron K. Oseland on April 10, 1965 and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2015.
John owned and operated John Turner and Son Trucking. He loved being an over the road truck driver. His CB handle was Angel Maker because of his three greatest angels, his children. His retirement years were spent enjoying his wife, children, and grandchildren. John always looked forward to what became an annual motorcycle ride with his son and the boys that were like his sons. John was loved by so many because of his charming personality. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by his children, Tracy (Joe) Kronewitter of Effingham, Toni (Butch) Baker of Dieterich, and John (Christine) Turner III of Effingham; five grandchildren, Megan (Drew) Klingler-Cantwell, Brandon (fiancée, Candra Hulskotter) Kronewitter, William Klingler, Turner Kronewitter, and Morgan Turner; two step-grandchildren, Ashton Baker and Payton (Carly) Baker; one step-great-granddaughter, Harper Denton; sister, Mary Green; and mother-in-law, Kathryn Oseland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mildred Ann Turner; wife, Sharron; and grandson, Casey John Turner.
