Lawrence H. Apke, 86 of rural Teutopolis, passed away Tuesday evening, July 2, 2019 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville, with burial in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Donor's Choice. Lawrence was born February 4, 1933 in Lillyville, the son of Joseph G. and Helen (Ruholl) Apke. He married Norma Jean Pruemer of May 21, 1955 at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis by Father Jim Hartke, uncle of the bride.
Lawrence was a farmer and worked for J.B. Esker Construction for 22 years. He served with the United States Army in the Korean War from August 1953 to March 1955. Lawrence was a member of Teutopolis Knights of Columbus, Teutopolis American Legion Post #924 and Sacred Heart Men's Sodality.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Jean; daughters, Janet (Pat) Dhom and Karen (Bill) Brumleve; sons, Larry (Kathy) Apke, Dave (Roxanne) Apke, Jim (Amy) Apke and Chris (Amy) Apke; sister, Ruth (Ralph) Bourgeois; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schumacher, Ruth Hoene, Mary Ellen Kremer and Alice Pruemer; brothers-in-law, Larry F. Pruemer and John Kremer; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Henry & Mary Apke and John & Anna Ruholl; sister, Mary Agnes; brothers-in-law, Joseph Spengler, Harold Schumacher, John Hoene, Joe Pruemer, Bernie Pruemer, Tom Althoff and Arthur Pruemer, who died in infancy.
