Marjorie Kay Stuemke, 67, of Altamont died at 1:22 p.m. Monday, September 11, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, 201, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright and Rev. Bernard Ross officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials may be made to WooHoo Sisterhood, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Marjorie was born on Sunday, November 6, 1949 in Mattoon, IL to Emery and Alta (Pontious) Eckel. She married Dale R. Stuemke on September 7, 1968 at the Immanuel Lutheran School, Altamont. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In addition to raising her family, she had been a secretary and bookkeeper for Beccue Builders and Prairie Farms, Altamont and the head cook at Altamont Immanuel Lutheran School, and also, various other businesses.
She is survived by her husband of over 49 years, Dale of Altamont; daughters, Amy (Bryan) Danks of Robinson and Penny (Charlie) Miller of Altamont; grandchildren, Clayton and Zachary Danks and Jacob and Caden Miller; father and stepmother, Emery (Judy) Eckel of Malakoff, TX; sisters, Carol "Jeanne" (Vince) Claps of Summerfield, FL, Sandra (Ronald) Tipsword of Summerfield, FL, Linda Pippin of Kingsman, AZ; brother-in-law, Howard (Cyndie) Stuemke of Effingham; half sisters, Bonita Davis and Kathy Loy; half brothers, Tim Loy, Michael Loy, Harvey Loy, and Terry (Diane) Eckel; stepbrother, Will (Shannon) Traxson; stepsister, Jamie Traxson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her mother, Alta (Pontious) Eckel; grandparents, Clarence and Ellen Pontious; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Lorna Stuemke; brothers-in-law, Buster Pippin and Donnie Davis; half brothers, Glen Alvin Loy, Jr, Kent Eugene Loy, and Tim Eckel.
