Nancy was born on September 24, 1932, in Bedford, IN, the daughter of Harold and Louise (Harrison) Lancaster. Her family lived in many locations throughout her childhood. She married Clinton Stork on July 16, 1955 in Mitchell, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on September 12, 1994.
Nancy attended St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Indianapolis, IN and enjoyed a long career in the medical field. She confidently served as the Registered Nurse and Night Shift Supervisor at Saint Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for forty-two years and was renowned for her uncanny ability to correctly diagnose a patient with speed and ease. Her reputation has persisted through her twenty-plus years of retirement, where even during her final days, nurses and staff reached out to her jokingly stating, "what will we do without your advice, and your great stories."
Nancy attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, and aside from her faith, the only thing Nancy was more passionate about than her career in nursing was her family. She was blessed with eight children, many of whom have gone on to establish families of their own. Nancy filled the role of matriarch with grace. Her door was always open to her family, friends, and neighbors, and she happily fostered an environment of acceptance and belonging. At Nancy's, everyone was home.
Nancy was a woman who was many things to many people. If you met her at the hospital, she was one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected nurses you could find. If you met her at church, she was a devout and loyal servant. If you met her on the street, she was a feisty lady with personality to spare. But if you met her at home, she was simply "mom," "grandma," or "great granny." She will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to know her and be loved by her.
Nancy is survived by her daughters, Theresa (Leon) Hillyer of Effingham, Carol Emmerich of Glen Carbon, Katherine Durbin of Effingham, Sharon (Mark) Jaske of Cape Coral, FL, and Elizabeth Stork of Effingham; 12 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; brother, Charles William (fiancée, Sherry Baker) Lancaster of Mitchell, IN; special family friends, Julie Hurst and Sheri Barnett; niece, Susan Mathy; and nephew, Eric Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Steven, Joseph, and James; sons-in-law, Marty Petersen and Troy Durbin; and sister, Beverly Sue Taylor.
