Ron Stein, 71, of Newman passed away at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at his home in rural Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at the Newman United Methodist Church with Pastor Dean Beals officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery north of Newman. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Joines Funeral Home, 401 W. Gillogly St., Newman. Memorials may be made to the Newman American Legion or to the Newman United Methodist Church.
Ron was born February 13, 1946, in Vandalia, the son of Ronald and Virginia Karnes Stein. He married Cindy McCallister March 12, 2005, in Chrisman. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ingrid (Ted) Minger, Tuscola, and Megan (John) Klemm, Waynesville; three step-children, Amy McCallister (Craig) Hall, Quincy, Andy (Katie) McCallister, German Town Hills, Leslie(Rob) Gordon, Tuscola; 11 grandchildren, Meredith and Ted Abbas, Allison and Taylor Gordon, Reese and Caleb McCallister, Blaine , Calla and Quentin Klemm, Bronwyn and Brayson Minger; one sister, Gayle (David) Hooks.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron was a graduate of ISU and received his masters degree from the University of Illinois. He was a loving and dedicated teacher for many years. Following his teaching career he worked at Syngenta Seeds in Paris until his retirement.
He loved fishing, IHB tractors and spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife Cindy enjoyed their many camping and traveling adventures.
