Sharon Werner, 77, of Chatham died at 4:55 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.
Sharon was born June 20, 1939 in Effingham, the daughter of Loel F. and Wilma (Colclasure) Davis. She married Charles Werner on April 2, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada; he preceded her in death on March 27, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.
Sharon was the "Lunch Lady" at Chatham Glenwood Junior-Senior High Schools for more than 30 years. She knew and loved every student and they knew and loved her, as well.
She was a selfless person that put the needs of others ahead of her own.
She is survived by her children, David McCormick of Springfield, Patrick McCormick of Maplewood, MO, and Sue (Brian) McDonald of LeRoy; three grandchildren, Danielle (Kyle) Malan of Downs, Adam (Katie Davis) McDonald of Bloomington, and Taylor McDonald of LeRoy; great-grandson, Luke Malan; dear friends, Cheryl and David Bice; and her loving aunts, cousins, step-children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
When people describe Sharon there are so many wonderful things they shareher laugh, her smile, her desire to make your favorite dish, and the grandkids "Cozy Spots" for sleep-overs. Also, the way she would joke and have fun and her Energizer bunny personality of always going, doing, and giving.
It is hard to adequately describe our Mimi because it was not the things she did; it was the way she made you feel.
There will be a service for family on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the United Pentecostal Church in Effingham.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for all of her Chatham and Springfield friends.
