Erna Fae Koontz, 83, of St. Elmo passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo with a one-hour viewing prior to service. PeeWee Denton will be officiating. Burial will be at Sidener Cemetery in St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Memorials may go to the donor's choice. Erna was born on Dec. 8, 1933, in St. Elmo, the daughter of Cline F. and Thelma B. (Fulton) Dunbar. She married Charlie Koontz on Feb. 14, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo. Erna played the piano and organ at the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo for many years. She was a member of the St. Elmo Women's Club, Home Community Education and the New Beginnings Church in Effingham. She loved to bake cookies and spend time with her family and friends.
Erna is survived by her husband, Charlie Koontz of St. Elmo; two sons, David Koontz (wife Penny) of St. Elmo, and Dan Koontz of St. Elmo; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents, Cline and Thelma Dunbar.
