Norman E. Earnest, 86, of Olney, formerly of Newton, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Burgin Manor in Olney, IL. He was born on June 28, 1931 in Douglas Co., IL, the son of A. Wayne and Opal (Webster) Earnest. He married Myrna Lea (Thomas) on February 3, 1951, in Oblong, IL. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2015.
Norm was a US Navy Veteran. He farmed in Jasper Co. for several years and was a heavy equipment operator. Norm co-owned Webster Ford, was an insurance agent, and owned and operated the Hardee's restaurant in Olney. Norm enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. He took pleasure in reading books and cooking. Norm was an active member of the Christian Church of Olney, helping build the new buildings as the church expanded. He was an elder for many years. Norm was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Norm is survived by his Son, Randal Earnest and wife Peggy of Sumner, IL, Son, Jerry "Jed" Earnest and wife Cheryl of Newton, IL, Son, Jon Earnest and wife Betty of Newton, IL, Daughter, Joni Ginder and husband Jeff of Olney, IL, 13 Grandchildren, Micah Beth Drummond and special friend Chris Phillips, Lynnette (Tom) Dusablon, Jerud (Chandi) Earnest, Melissa (Johnathon) Paholke, Natalie Earnest, Natasha (Jordan) Deters, Nathan (Nikki) Earnest, Matthew (Jenna) Earnest, Patrick Earnest, Jason (Erin) Ginder, Jeremy Ginder and special friend Dana Seesengood, Jenna (Ryan) Zerrusen, and Jillian Ginder, and 18 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Myrna Lea (Thomas) Earnest; and brother, Floyd Earnest.
A visitation service will be held at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney on Sunday, July 16, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Christian Church of Olney on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with burial following at Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, IL. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.
