Richard's Story

Richard Allen Zink, age 75, of Urbana, IL, the son of the late John Calvin Zink and the late Rochelle Colclasure (Hackett) Zink passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure, surrounded by family at 2:00 am, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Upon his passing, he was escorted to his hometown of Louisville, ILby Neal Funeral Home staff and his elder brother John W. Zink.
Richard was born Wednesday, November 12, 1941 at home,in Louisville. He moved to Urbana in 1983 where he lived for the last 34 years. He was a retiree, having been previously employed by Developmental Services Center,Carle Print Shop, and JM Jones Warehouse in Champaign/Urbana.
Richard was a descendant of the Mayflower, through his mother, and a descendant of the Sons of the American Revolution, through his father. He was a lifelong avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Richard also faithfully followed North Clay sports along with all Clay County sports through family and the local Clay County Republican newspaper. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a quiet and generous soul, who delighted in simple pleasures like a McDonald's meal or a scratch-off lottery ticket.
Richard is survived by siblings, John and Caroline(Stanfield) Zink of Louisville, Gloria (Zink) and Kenneth Wattles of Louisville, Louisa (Zink) and Dr. John Komocar of Beach Park, IL, Phyllis (Zink) and David Schwenk of Urbana; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers James Hackett, Charles Hackett and Donald Zink; and sisters Lois Jean Zink, Shirley June Zink, and Estella Catherine Zink.
Arrangements are entrusted to J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Toliver Cemetery, Route 45, North of Louisville. The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 2:30 to 3:00 pm, followed by a casual St. Louis Cardinals themed service.
