Audry V. Gress
Audry V. Gress, 92 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Sacred Heart School or to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be expressed at
Audry was born August 24, 1927 in Calhoun County, Illinois, the son of Arthur Roman and Mary Helen (McGuire) Gress. He married Ora Johnson on November 24, 1948 in Hardin, Illinois. Audry served with the United States Marines from 1945 to 1946. For many years, Audry worked in the insurance industry and retired in the mid-1990's. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and was a lifetime member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus #665.
Audry is survived by his wife, Ora of Effingham; children, Michael (Nancy) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Timothy (Vicky) of Mansfield, Lisa Alwerdt (Steve Moore), Mary (Dave) Walters and Vicki Gress all of Effingham; sister, Eleanor Robeen of Hardin; ten grandchildren, Bridget, Hillary, Patrick, Caitlin, Lauren, Collin, Daniel, Britney, Aaron and Jenny; and nine great-grandchildren.
Audry was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Patrick "Pat" Gress and brother, "Bud" Gress.

Sorry for your loss, The Gress Family contributed many great memories on North street, I will never forget how Audry drove all us kids to the skating rink in his brand new station wagon, Audry and Ora always made my sister Darlene and I feel welcome when we where playing with Vicky, Thanks for the memories of days growing up with The Gress Family. Audry will always live in our hearts,

My condolences to Ora and the entire Gress family. Though I moved away many years ago, it was always a joy to run into Audry and Ora during a visit to Effingham, and by chance I often did. Audry's kindness, gentle nature, and generosity made the world a better place.
