Altamont, IL - Joan H. Myers passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024. She was born in Chicago on March 11, 1941. She married Jerry Myers on July 3, 1965. They had two sons, Alan and Bryan Myers. Joan was an active member of the Olympia Fields United Methodist Church while there she maintained the grounds and harvested the apples for years. She also headed up the Appalachian Service Project and Clown Ministry Program along with many other service opportunities. Joan graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1963 and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1992. Joan taught 4th Grade at Western Avenue School in Flossmoor, Il from 1963-1967 and went on to volunteer in the library there while her boys were in school there. She also taught Art & 4th Grade at Glenwood School for Boys in Glenwood, Il from 1981-1985. Joan was an employee at the Art Institute for 10 years. She retired from the Art Institute in 2001. In 2014, Joan moved from Park Forest, Il to Altamont, Il. She spent a large amount of time doing art and always had projects going. Joan hand painted china, made metal jewelry, did wood working, handmade paper, worked with fiber, and many other forms of media. She crocheted so many things like making blankets, hats, and scarfs for those in need and often was working on a quilt as well.

Survived by:

Alan and Lena Myers of Edgewood,Il, Bryan and Amy Myers of Broken Arrow, OK, 4 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren & 3 step-great grandchildren. Bruce and Becky Henley (half siblings), Wanda Myers of Montana(sis in law), David Sanders of Florida(bro in law) and many nieces and nephews.
