Lloyd was born on June 14, 1930 in Woodbury Township (Cumberland County, Illinois), the son of James and Marie (Schwerdt) Flood. He married Lois Yocum on May 10, 1952 and she preceded him in death in 2016.
Lloyd was proud member of his country and community. He enlisted in the service in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force for 3 ½ years during the Korean War. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Rome, NY, where he performed medical duties. Once Lloyd and Lois moved back to Cumberland County, they started a family and had 3 children. Lloyd was active in his children's lives and served as a 4-H leader during their childhood. He was also a valued member of the 4-H community while his grandchildren participated. You could always catch him cheering on his grandchildren, whether it be 4-H shows or ball games. Lloyd worked as a carpenter after the service and throughout his life. He highly enjoyed doing carpenter work as a hobby and helped his children with remodeling their home and making furniture for his grandchildren. Lloyd raised many animals on the farm throughout his life and enjoyed farming. If you stopped by his house, you could always count on either a Cardinal baseball game or an old western on the T.V. Lloyd was member of the VFW and Sacred Heart Church in Effingham and a beloved member of the community.
Lloyd is survived by son, Dan (Toots) Flood of Teutopolis; two daughters, Nancy (Ray) Moses and Kay (Brad) Hornbeck, both of Greenup; seven grandchildren, Steve (Daphne) Flood, Stephanie (Justin) Willenbrink, Natalie (Zach) Mills, Kristin Moses, Houston (Kelli) Moses, Lacey (Silas) Hornbeck and Cody Hornbeck. Six great-grandchildren, Garret Flood, Colt and Trigg Moses, Jager, Krew and Aizlie Mills; six step-grandchildren, Paul Bloemer Jr., Kim Beckman, Gary Bloemer, Steve Bloemer, Gina M. Koester, Amanda Dust and 18 great-step grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 brothers.
Lloyd will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will forever be loved and hold a special place in our hearts.
