Marita C. (Kortte) Kemme of Effingham, formally of Shumway, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Church with a 4:00 p.m. CCW rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Parish Hall Building Fund or St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.
Marita was born on May 11, 1939, the daughter of Henry and Celeste (Haarmann) Kortte. She married Donald Kemme on December 28, 1957. Marita was an avid gardener and loved growing purple flowers. Her ultimate love was her faith, followed by loving and caring for her family and cooking and preparing meals. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway and a member of St. Mary's CCW.
Marita is survived by her husband of over 67 years; children, Mark (Karen) Kemme, Paul (Jane) Kemme, Bishop Carl Kemme, Todd (Julie) Kemme, Edward (Leslie) Kemme, and Lucinda (Brian) Herboth; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Betty Jean) Kortte and sister-in-law, Jane Kortte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin boys at birth; brother, Phillip Kortte; in-laws, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
