Harrisburg, Illinois - Paul Robert Doan, age 61 of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:34 AM, on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on January 31, 1965 in Murray, Kentucky to Bobby Gene and Nancy Sue (Earhart) Doan. On May 27, 2006 he married Kara Roberts and she survives in Harrisburg. Paul was a Registered Nurse. He was an avid reader, loved watching sports, especially the Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinals and Paul was an amateur bird watcher. Jesus and family were Paul's priorities. He enjoyed watching movies and listening to music. When Paul was asked by his mother at 16 years old what he wanted to be when he grew up, Paul answered that he wanted to be a dad. Later in life, Paul's only greater aspiration was to be a grandpa. Paul demonstrated what it looked like to be a man of God. He was a great father, and an even better man. His children are honored to call him father and Jacob has often said when he grows up, he wants to be just like him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kara Doan of Harrisburg; four children, daughter, Haley Dooley and husband, Brian of Carbondale; daughter, Josephine Stout and husband, Charles Stout III of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter, Madeline Doan of Harrisburg; and son, Jacob Doan of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Beulah Marie Stout and Irina Nell Stout of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; mother, Nancy Overton and husband, Leo of Noble, Illinois; step-mother, Arlone Doan of Arthur, Illinois; brother, Mark "Pete" Doan and wife, Sharon of Effingham, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Donna Roberts; brother-in-law, Keith Roberts and wife, Debbie of Raleigh; and sister-in-law, Kelly McGee of Carterville.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Doan.

Funeral services for Paul Robert Doan will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Little Chapel Church in Harrisburg. Jeff Rush, Ronnie Coyle and T.W. Norman will officiate and burial will follow at Rhine Cemetery in Raleigh. Visitation will be held from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 and from 9 AM to 10 AM on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Little Chapel Church. Memorial contributions may be made to God's Warriors (a cancer survivors support ministry) make checks to Little Chapel Church and envelopes will be available at the church.
