Neoga, Illinois - Phyllis Rita Scoles, 84, of Neoga, Illinois passed away at 4:03 AM Tuesday June 9, 2026 at St Anthony Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Phyllis was born September 15, 1941 the daughter of Joseph and Reba (Shafer) Knackmus. She married Donald L. Scoles on June 15, 1969 in Neoga, Illinois, he passed June 6, 2018. Phyllis and Don loved to travel. Their goal was to see all 50 states. She was involved in community service and enjoyed giving back to others. Phyllis was a member of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Neoga, Illinois. She loved going to picnics and being around people. Phyllis could often be found reading her bible or playing BINGO.
Phyllis is survived by cousins, Norman (Cindi) Shafer and Alan Shafer; special friends Penny (Art) Walk, Chad Walk, Ashley (Gustin) Bauguss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and cousin Duane Allenbaugh.
Visitation will be held Friday June 12, 2026 at 10 AM at the First Christian Church of Neoga. A Life Celebration Service will begin at 11 AM in the church. Burial will follow in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Cumberland County Life Center are appreciated.
