Thelma L. Mette, 95, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 at her home in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 14, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Green Creek. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools.

Thelma was born March 6, 1929 in Cumberland County, the daughter of John and Cecelia (Kleiss) Walk. She married Alphonse C. Mette on May 21, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2000.

Thelma is survived by her daughters, Tina (Larry) Haarmann of Effingham and Sharon (Chris) Poe of St. Mary of the Woods, IN; grandchildren, Chad (Kathy) Haarmann, Lori Haarmann (Eric), Matt (Jennay) Haarmann, Jennifer (Daniel) Green, and Mitchell (Aarica) Poe; great-grandchildren, Rileigh, Madilyn, Kinsey, Charity, and Allison Haarmann, Chase, Addison, Conner, Alexis, and Macie Poe.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Lily Haarmann; sisters, Dorthea Walk, Edith Sudkamp, and Emily Rentfrow.

Thelma's family would like to give special thanks to Kristie and Melissa for their exceptional care of Thelma.
